Understanding details of users of the transport system. Information will be collected through current datasets, an app, wristbands and surveys.

We seek to understand, through data collection, analysis and modelling, the profiles of users of the transport system (e.g. demographics, habits) and their associated risk or transmission probability.
There will be four main methodological activities:
- (Co)analysis of databases from existing surveys and new empirical primary data;
- Modelling/estimation approaches e.g. IPF to go to scale, exploration of transferability issues;
- Equity analysis based on e.g. IMD of home location;
- Integration of COVID risk factors to HABITs transport-health model, identifying interfaces with other transport/transport-health models e.g. digital twins.
The project will select a series of typical journeys within three case study areas: Leeds, London and Newcastle for Underground, Bus and Train modes. Our primary data collection will use a hybrid approach of conventional online survey techniques coupled with new mobility data tracking techniques and is due to start early in 2021. This approach will build a representative profile of public transport users and travel behaviour during and post Covid measures. Our initial analysis comparing pre and during Covid (1st wave) using existing survey data, has shown systemic patterns of reduction and increase in public transport use among men and women, BAME and non BAME groups, age groups, Socio-economic groups and households owning cars across train and bus and between London and non-London locations.
