Privacy information

The TRACK project makes use of some personal data that falls under the Data Protection Act 2018 (GDPR). Each institution is responsible for their own data management and compliance with privacy laws and research ethics. This page briefly describes the nature of the processing and how you can exercise your rights.

Newcastle University

Within WP4 of the project we are processing small quantities of personal data including in some cases CCTV recordings and ticketing data. This is necessary because there are no other data sources that accurately describe all aspects of travel behaviour such as distancing between passengers, especially since March 2020. The project is carried out with the approval of the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering Ethics Committee.

Additional information on data shared for this project by Transport for London is available on the TfL CCTV & surveillance cameras page and the associated data protection impact assessment (DPIA). Similar DPIAs exist for data shared by Network Rail, Go North East, Go-Ahead London, and Northern Rail.

If you have concerns, you may contact the lead investigator at Newcastle University or the university's data protection officer.
